MachineCode emerged from deep within the framework of reality, flickering into existence and twisting together the fibers of 2 of the sonic realm’s most effective algorithms – Current Value & Dean Rodell. A new sentient form awakened, combining attitudes of progression and precision, driving the MachineCode project to the cusp of the future.

Formation and Beginnings

MachineCode, the collaborative project between Dean Rodell and Current Value (Tim Jacobs), emerged in the early 2000s after a coming of minds when meeting in Europe, marking a significant moment in the techno and drum and bass (DnB) scenes.
Dean Rodell, known for his work in the harder edges of techno and industrial music, combined forces with Current Value, a prominent figure in the DnB world renowned for his dark, complex, and futuristic soundscapes. The duo officially launched MachineCode in the first decade of the noughties, aiming to merge their unique styles into a cohesive sound that pushed the boundaries of electronic music, shaping Technoid and the future of Machinefunk.
MachineCode stands as a testament to creative synergy and the unwavering drive to innovate. This passion and work ethic have led them to have worked for and with: Senser, Bjork, Amon Tobin, Ableton, Loopmaster’s, Steinberg, & Splice to name a few.

Audio History in Brief

MachineCodes debut album, “Environments,” released in 2011 on Subtrakt, showcased their ability to blend intricate DnB rhythms & techno with a fine blend of “doom dub” aptly named at time. The album received critical acclaim for its innovative approach and intricate production, setting the stage for MachineCode’s distinct sonic identity. Environments was heralded as being ahead of its time and this still stands true to this claim.

Environmental Evolution

Following the success of their debut album Environments, MachineCode continued to refine and expand their sound. They released a series of EPs and singles that further cemented their reputation as pioneers in the techno-DnB genre. Notable album releases during this period included “Under The Sun” (2013) and “Velocity” (2014), which highlighted their evolving production and growing influence within the DnB scene.
In late 2014, they released their sophomore experimental album, “Samurai,” on Ad Noiseam, a label known for its fringe and innovative electronic music.
“Samurai” was a concept album with meticulous sound design, with a seamless integration of industrial-fused half-step, DnB & mechanical psychedelia. Tracks like “Samurai,” “Time Come,” and “Gatling” were played across many different genres, even crossing MachineCode over to showcase shows in the industrial scene at festivals like Maschinen fest.

Audio History in Brief, Continued

MachineCode’s relentless pursuit of innovation led them back to the dancefloor with a groundbreaking, neuro-filled third album, “Mechtropolis” (2016), released on Eatbrain, a label synonymous with high-energy and forward-thinking DnB. This album was a testament to their mastery of production and their ability to create immersive auditory neuro experiences without deviating from the MC sound. “Mechtropolis” featured tracks like “Speaker,” “Battlestar,” and “Flintlock,” which once again demonstrated their skill in creating dark, atmospheric neurotech from another dimension.
And that dimension is where we see the birth of one of the most otherworldly albums by MachineCode,
Every-One’s & Nothings,” the last studio album released on Yuku. As one avid listener commented, “This is the kind of music no one asked for but needs to exist…. Made, not to top the charts, but to tickle the audiophile brain.” Close your eyes and enjoy the engineering!
MachineCode has never rested on their laurels; sonic boundaries are there to be pushed, manipulated, and broken, then surgically crafted together.
This is epitomized with their new label MCR MachineCode Recordings, a label dedicated to show-casing forward-thinking techno and DnB. The creation of MCR has injected energy into a scene stuck in a commercial quagmire, offering a platform for innovative artists to share their vision and bodies of work.

Live, Influence & Legacy

MachineCode’s impact on the electronic music landscape cannot be overstated. Their innovative fusion of techno and DnB has influenced countless producers and opened new avenues for experimentation within these genres. Their dedication to pushing the boundaries of sound design have earned them a dedicated following and respect from peers and fans alike.
Their intense and captivating live performances are not merely sets but journeys in themselves, taking audiences through a spectrum of soundscapes and rhythmic complexities, creating a unique and immersive experience. Looking ahead, from 2025 onwards, MachineCode will be crafting multiple sets of the MC sound, each designed to deep dive and explore the different sides of their project. These will include a Technoid DnB live sets, Full Hardware Techno live, Half-step, MachineFunk set, and an experimental set that journey through dubby basslines and industrial landscapes. This diversity ensures that MachineCode continues to evolve and engage audiences with their fresh and dynamic performances “Ad Astra”

CURRENT VALUE

Tim Jacobs, known professionally as Current Value, is a pioneering figure in the drum and bass and electronic music scenes. Born and raised in Berlin, Germany, Jacobs was exposed to a diverse array of musical influences from an early age. His journey into the world of electronic music began in the early 1990s, inspired by the burgeoning rave culture and the innovative sounds of early techno and DnB. Tim adopted the moniker Current Value in 1997, debuting with his first album “Frequency Hunt” on the label Position Chrome. The album showcased his unique approach to DnB, characterized by dark, complex rhythms and intricate sound design. This early work quickly showed him as a notable producer in the underground DnB scene.
Over the next decade, Current Value continued to push the boundaries of DnB with a series of critically acclaimed releases. His albums “In a Far Future” (2001), “The Seeds of Mutation” (2002), and “2012: The Day of Silence” (2009) solidified his reputation as an innovator, known for his precise production techniques and futuristic soundscapes. In addition to his work as a DnB producer, Tim Jacobs has made significant contributions to the field of sound design.
His ability in creating intricate, immersive audio environments has led to collaborations with various artists and projects across multiple genres. Notably, CV has worked with renowned artists such as Amon Tobin and Björk, bringing his distinctive sound design to their projects. These collaborations highlight Jacobs’s versatility and ability to enhance the work of other artists with his unique sonic touch. His deep understanding of audio engineering and production techniques has also made him a sought-after teacher and mentor. DEAN RODELL

Dean Rodell, an influential figure in the electronic music scene, was born in the United Kingdom and developed a passion for music from an early age, growing up during the rise of the rave and electronic music movements in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Rodell was inspired by the underground sounds of techno, acid house, and psychedelia. Dean Rodell began his career in the electronic music industry in the mid-1990s, quickly making a name for himself with his hard-edged techno productions. He released music on several prominent techno labels, including Planet Rhythm, Audio, Pounding Grooves, and Compound. Rodell collaborated with key figures in the techno scene such as Glenn Wilson, Patrick Skoog, and Slobodan, producing tracks that were characterized by raw energy and industrial noise. In addition to his solo work, Rodell was one of the pioneers of the “Technoid” sound, a fusion of techno and DnB. Along with co-producer Raiden in their project Dying Punks, Rodell helped to define and popularize this innovative genre, which combined the driving force of techno with the rhythmic complexity of DnB. In 2005, Rodell co-founded Subdivision Media, a multimedia collective and record label dedicated to pushing the boundaries of electronic music. Subdivision Media quickly became known for its openness to tread sonic territories releasing many forward-thinking artists. Through this platform, Compound Records, Subsistenz, SubViolenz, Submission & Subtrakt were housed, crossing over all boundaries of electronica that Dean was involved in. In 2010, Rodell took his passion for electronic music to a new level by co-founding Subland Club in Berlin, Germany. Subland became a hub for the underground electronic music community in Berlin, hosting events that featured some of the most abstract, innovative, and influential artists in the scene. The club was renowned for its Soundsystem, high-energy atmosphere and its commitment to highlighting the best in techno, DnB, and experimental electronic music. This was epitomized by the “Burn The Machine Festival” which he co run. Since leaving his role at Subland, Dean has worked for Ableton helping shape their hardware and sound design.

Management notes:
Legendary duo that has been surprising with its freshness and unique style in broadly understood electronic music for over 15 years.

Both veteran producers in their own right, Dean Rodell has pushed the harder edged side of techno since the early 90’s, and has collaborated with many leading producers such as The Panacea, Glenn Wilson, Patrik Skoog, DJ Ogi, Stafan Ehrlin & Cooh to mention but a few.

Equally heavyweight from the drum’n‘bass field comes Current Value. Going strong since day one and having pushed the limits withing within the drum n bass community for over two decades now, he began with seminal releases on the early Position Chrome label, arguably some of the most insanely technical programming of its time. Later moving from haunted spacestation soundtracks to a more visceral style of dancefloor smashers, he’s not let up on the extreme technical drum programming.

The duo met randomly over a curry in Berlin and started working on tracks together. As the project took form, the distinctly technoid heavyweight experimental sound became Machine Code.
